Make Spring Break Unforgettable—Without Breaking the Bank

road trip pictures

Some great memories here from top left: driving in a snow storm; pictures on a ferry in Canada; motorcycle in Canada that was funny; driving near Richmond, VA; Chicago traffic and skyline; driving towards Atlanta; family Pinto in the early 80s that carried us from PA to FL; traffic somewhere on East Coast during the drive back from FL.

Spring break in our family? It’s an annual rite of passage that usually involves cramming the whole crew into our trusty (and possibly too-small) car, cranking up the volume on the “Are we there yet?” symphony, and heading down to our beloved Florida. Don’t get me wrong—there have been years filled with car sickness, epic sibling battles, and my favorite: the classic “let’s take another bathroom break” requests. But when I look back, those chaotic trips somehow blend together into a tapestry of unforgettable memories.

This year, though, we’ve decided to switch things up and head to Washington, D.C. Why D.C.? Aside from the fact that I’m convinced it's a treasure trove for history buffs, there’s something magical about visiting a place stuffed with monuments, rich stories, and, best of all, FREE museums! Who doesn’t love the thrill of exploring the nation’s capital without breaking the bank?
